Babban Gona

Transforming agriculture into Africa's greatest job creation engine.

Babban Gona, meaning “Great Farm” in Hausa, is a social enterprise that provides comprehensive support for smallholder farmers in Nigeria to become more profitable. Founded in 2012, it is a model built on a radical idea: that farming, done right, can lift millions out of poverty and create sustainable livelihoods for an entire generation.

Lola joined as Co-Founder and Executive Director, bringing her expertise in operations, finance, and strategy to scale the enterprise’s impact. Babban Gona is a financially sustainable and scalable agricultural enterprise co-owned by its farmers, a structure that ensures those at the centre of the mission share in its success.

Through an integrated franchise model, Babban Gona delivers end-to-end services to smallholder farmers:

  • Training & Development — agronomy best practices, financial literacy, and leadership skills through a dedicated farm university
  • Financial Credit — affordable debt financing that enables farmers to invest in their own growth
  • Agricultural Inputs — high-quality inputs at competitive prices
  • Harvest Storage & Marketing — access to storage infrastructure, formal markets, and better prices
